Planned Giving
What is Planned Giving?
Planned Giving is simply the means by which a donor works with a charitable organization to develop a strategic gift program in his/her estate planning. A planned gift can be a simple bequest or a complex charitable trust. They are not only extremely important to the non-profit organization for which they are designed, but can be beneficial as well to the donor and his/her heirs. There are a variety of tools and instruments available to be considered in a planned giving program, many of which have been outlined in our Giving Primer.
How does planned giving benefit me?
There are many ways to design planned gifts, all of which are valuable to the beneficiary organization whether the donation is a current or deferred transfer of funds or assets. Many planned gifts have significant benefits to the donors, as well, and we are happy to discuss those benefits with you further. Meanwhile, among the most significant donor benefits are the following:
- increased income for the donor or designated income beneficiary
- favorable tax benefits
- reduction in capital gains taxes
How can I make a planned gift to the Foundation?
Ways of making planned gifts to the Indian River Medical Center Foundation include the following:

Honor/Memorials
The Indian River Medical Center Foundation provides an opportunity for members of the community to make donations in honor of others. Frequently, this is in memory of a recent passing of a loved one. Many families choose to request that donations be made to the Indian River Medical Center Foundation in lieu of cards, flowers, or gifts.
However, the dedication of a donation in celebration of a person or accomplishment, or to be given to friends and families as a meaningful holiday gift is equally appropriate and we are happy to make arrangements for such gifts through our Honor/Memorial program.
Corporate and Foundation Relations
In addition to direct philanthropic gifts to the Indian River Medical Center Foundation, there are many ways in which individuals and businesses can contribute to the efforts of the foundation while enjoying the benefits of our marketing and community outreach efforts through sponsorship of our special events. A variety of opportunities are available for such support and individual packages can be customized to meet specific donor needs.
