In November 2016, the Foundation Board announced $1.25 million of an estate gift would be used to establish the Dr. Cary L. Stowe Endowed Chair for Cardiovascular Surgery.

Under Dr. Stowe’s leadership, Indian River Medical Center has created a heart program rivaling the quality and outcomes of major medical centers throughout the United States. Medical Director, Cardiovascular Surgery Services, Dr. Stowe was named a ‘Top Doctor’ by U.S. News & World Report. He is one of the country’s most highly regarded aortic, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons. Dr. Stowe trained at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Methodist Hospital in Houston, and Emory University in Atlanta. Board certified in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Stowe has performed more than 9,000 heart surgeries. He has held leadership positions in several national cardiovascular associations.

In looking to the future, the Foundation board has recognized there are endowment strategies which will allow Indian River Medical Center to sustain the level of excellence achieved through visionary leadership and philanthropic support. Sustaining the current caliber of leadership for the Welsh Heart Center is chief among those pivotal opportunities.

On November 6, 2006, Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital began a new era of cardiac care, under the exceptional leadership of medical director Cary. L. Stowe, MD. Filling a critical community need for life-saving heart care close to home, Dr. Stowe assembled an experienced, highly-skilled team to provide new standards of cardiac care. Under his direction, the Welsh Heart Center is now a leader in advanced heart care, offering comprehensive cardiovascular diagnostics and procedures, and rivaling the quality and outcomes of major medical centers throughout the United States.

The endowed chair for Welsh Heart Center leadership named in Dr. Stowe's honor, ensures CCIRH is able to maintain the level of leadership exemplified by Dr. Stowe to benefit patients in our community. Funds will be used for recruitment and retention of future medical directors to sustain excellence and ensure advancements in cardiac care at the Welsh Heart Center.

Ensuring a bright future
We know that when you think about defining your philanthropic legacy, you search for a cause that is dear to your heart, where you know that you can truly make a difference, where your ultimate gift will be maintained, nurtured and leveraged through sound fiscal management practices. Endowment — and other forms of donor support — are the means of sustaining clinical leadership and patient care excellence at CCIRH for generations to come.

Great people are the heart of any outstanding healthcare organization so with an ever-increasing shortage of physicians, nurses and other healthcare staff, CCIRH works hard to be a preferred option for high quality professionals by offering leading-edge technology and facilities. Investing in the future of local healthcare through endowment is an act of generosity and vision… for the benefit of our generation and the ones to follow.

Endowment principals are held in perpetuity and earnings are distributed in accordance with the guidelines of each respective endowment and the Foundation Investment Policy.

A community of fewer than 150,000 residents is fortunate to have a medical center with the breadth and depth of services found at IRMC -- only possible through philanthropy. See what makes our home special in the eyes and hearts of our patients and donors.

Catch the vision for today's funding priorities.

Excellence in Cancer Care

Excellence in Cancer Care remains a funding priority for the Foundation. Cancer continues to be the leading cause of death in Indian River County driving us to ensure care is available to all who need it.

The opening of the Scully-Welsh Cancer Center in late 2015 brought world-class cancer care to Vero Beach, thanks to an outpouring of community support. To meet the community's ongoing need, the cancer center continues to grow its roster of skilled oncologists, add Patient Care Navigators, enhance the menu of ancillary and palliative care services available to patients and caregivers, and help those in need of its Pay It Forward Fund,

Join us in supporting our community's many cancer patients by making a gift today.

Electrophysiology Lab unrivaled statewide

EP Lab FK1B5177 web LGUntil the Cardiac Electrophysiology program (EP) began in September 2016, arrhythmia was our community’s greatest unmet cardiac need. Arrhythmia is a problem with the heart's electrical system, the most common of which is Atrial Fibbrillation. A-Fib grows more likely with age and, over the long-term, increases a patient's risk of stroke.

As an addition to the Welsh Heart Center, IRMC built an electrophysiology lab equipped with a unique combination of leading-edge technology unrivaled in Florida. Dr. Brett Faulknier and the top-notch EP team ablate the electrical disturbances.

While fundraising for EP continues, our patients are fortunate that they do not have to wait or travel for care.  We have the right care right here.

You can help to ensure this program stays at the forefront of care by making a gift today.
