Initiated in 2012, The Campaign for Excellence in Cancer Care brought our community a vision that has been widely embraced. The goal of delivering world-class cancer care right here in Vero Beach resonated with donors, many of whom know all too well the rigors associated with cancer treatment. The opportunity to ease that journey for residents of Indian River County was met with resounding support.
More than $6 million had been raised in the first year of the campaign when Marlynn & Bill Scully and Carol & Pat Welsh stepped forward to dramatically change the equation. Each couple gave a transformational gift of $12 million toward a $48 million goal. Their generosity so early in the campaign advanced the effort exponentially. Thier contributions encouraged others to join in expanding the scope of services for our cancer patients.
To date, nearly 1,000 donors have joined these philanthropic leaders to help provide care for those facing the cancer journey.
Contributions have allowed IRMC to renovate the inpatient Oncology Unit, create special oncology surgical suites and offer clinical trials to benefit patients for whom standard protocols are not effective. The new Scully-Welsh Cancer Center for outpatient care began treating patients in November 2015.
With 100 new patients every month, the need for support continues. To support this ongoing need, make a gift today.
