The Scully-Welsh Cancer Center truly is a testament to what is possible when a community comes together to embrace Philanthropy at Work.
Following the extraordinary success of the Welsh Heart Center, IRMC formed a task force of clinical and community leaders to explore achieving similar standards of excellence for cancer care. The result: a plan for comprehensive cancer care.
Next, Bill & Marylnn Scully and Pat & Carol Welsh stepped forward with transformational gifts of $12 million each. Nearly 1,000 donors joined them, raising $49.5 million against toward a goal of $48 million.
In December 2015, Scully-Welsh Cancer Center opened. Led by Medical Director Dr. Jim Grichnik and Administrative Director Lori McCormick, the center is the epitome of “high tech – high touch.” Top technology includes one of only four TrueBeam™ linear accelerators in the state. Overnight care is provided in the hospital’s most advanced wing. Volunteers deliver special comforts. And Patient Care Navigators guide patients and their families along the cancer journey, so that no one ever has to “go it alone.”
