Funded with a generous gift from Heidi and Lorne Waxlax, the Waxlax Recovery Room was a vital addition to IRMC. Needed to meet the growing community's surgical needs, the unit is triple the size of its predecessor. With 27 beds, this post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) provided the medical center with much-needed space to care for the support the increasing number of surgical procedures performed in14 operating suites.
Staffed by highly skilled compassionate nurses and technicians, the Waxlax Recovery Room is where IRMC typically cares for patients who have had such procedures as gall bladder removal, appendectomy or joint replacement. Some of these patients are then transferred to private inpatient rooms but many are able to go directly home.
